ABOUT CORNERSTONE

Our mission is to glorify God by leading people to know,
follow, serve, and share Jesus Christ!

Cornerstone is a family of people dedicated to following Jesus! As a Southern Baptist Church, we join with like-minded Christians in spreading the gospel in the Jefferson City area, the state of Missouri, our nation, and around the world.

"Loving God -- Loving Each Other" is more than just a catchy phrase. As the official motto of our church, we hope that it gives you insight into just who we are. As we keep our focus on knowing God through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, it will lead us to love others. Love for God, and love for people around us fulfill the great purposes of the church stated in the purpose statement above.

Christ reached out to people of all ages and backgrounds and at our church we desire to do the same. That is why you will discover here ministries geared to various life stages and needs. That is why we have a place for everyone to study the Scriptures, minister to others through numerous service opportunities.

Our Core Beliefs

The members of Cornerstone Baptist Church endeavor by God’s grace to be a body of believers who glorify God in both beliefs and conduct. Accordingly, we hold these core values as being essential to the fulfilling of our mission and purpose, both corporately and individually.

About the Scriptures

We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and that men were moved by the Spirit of God to write the very words of God. Therefore, we believe the Bible is without error.

About God

We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the Son of God) who became flesh to reveal God to man and to become the Savior of the lost world.

About Mankind

We believe that mankind was created in the image of God to have fellowship with Him but became alienated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, man is incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through his own effort alone.

About Salvation

We believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. Therefore, salvation occurs only when people place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin.

About the Christian Life

We believe that every Christian should live for Christ and not for himself. By obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Spirit of God, every believer should mature and be conformed to the image of Christ.

About the Church

We believe that the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The members of the church are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving Him and by making Him known to the lost world.

Worship

We believe that we are created by God to worship Him, and that glorifying God is the ultimate reason for our existence (John 4: 23-24). Therefore, we will seek to praise and worship Him passionately—as individuals, as families, and as a local church.

Prayer

We believe that prayer is the privilege and responsibility of every Christian, and that God unleashes His power and leading in the lives of those who spend time in prayer (Matthew 6:7; 1 Thessalonians 5:17). Therefore, we will intentionally seek to set aside specific times for private, family and corporate prayer.

Family

We believe that the family is God’s foundational institution for human society (Matthew 19:5-6; Ephesians 5:22-6:4). Therefore, we encourage lifelong commitments to marriage between one man and one woman; we support the ongoing spiritual nurture of the family; and we are committed to honoring the priority of family time through our ministries and activities.

Fellowship/Community

We believe that God instructs Christians to cultivate loving relationships as a community of believers (Romans 12:10; 1 John 4:7-11). Therefore, we will actively pursue personal, family, and staff relationships characterized by integrity, mutual accountability, mutual serving, mutual encouragement, and mutual honoring.

Life Transformation

We believe that all Christians should daily pursue a growing personal relationship with Christ, and are responsible for becoming more like Christ in their beliefs and conduct (Ephesians 4:13; Colossians 1:28). Therefore, we will provide opportunities for every believer to develop a Christian worldview and thus engage the culture wherein he lives, works, and interacts.

Every Member Ministry

We believe that God cares about the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of every person. Further, we believe that every member of this church is called to minister (Ephesians 4:11-12). Therefore, we will develop lay leaders who will function effectively in their respective roles of service and, in turn, train and mentor other believers for ministry.

Personal Evangelism/Missions

We believe that every person is important to God, that God desires a personal relationship with every individual, and that He has entrusted us with the message of salvation (Matthew 28:19-20; 2 Corinthians 5:18-20). Therefore, we will endeavor to share the message of salvation with all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, or economic status, both in our local area, our state, across America, and throughout the world.

Stewardship

We believe that biblical stewardship involves the proper management of all that God has given us—time, money, abilities, etc.—to expand His kingdom (1 Corinthians 4:2; 1 Peter 4:10). Therefore, we encourage every member to adopt a lifestyle of stewardship that recognizes God’s ownership of everything and to practice the biblical principle of tithing (giving at least one tenth of one’s income) to support the work of the church.

Our Purposes

All that our church seeks to be and do, is in order to glorify God! He alone is worthy of complete devotion and love. He created each of us to be loved by Him and to enjoy a personal relationship with Him! As we seek to glorify God in all things, we will:

1. Magnify God’s presence (Worship)

2. Serve in Jesus’ Name (Ministry)

3. Share the Good News of Jesus (Evangelism)

4. Fellowship as God’s Family (Fellowship)

5. Teach God’s People to Grow in Faith (Discipleship)

If you desire a church home where you can be a part of carrying out the great purposes the Lord Jesus gave to His people, come home to Cornerstone Baptist Church where you have many brothers and sisters in Christ ready to glorify God with you!
