Wow! What an amazing night we had last night with “Trunk or Treat” at Cornerstone! We even had Megan Sanchez from KRCG-TV come and do a report from our church. She was very kind and professional. We were honored to have her. Above is video of the report she did.
We had 298 people register, with several dozen other folks who joined in the activities after we were underway. So we had well over 300 people attend! It was a wonderful chance to meet many new friends and enjoy serving our neighborhood and community by giving children and parents a safe place to “trick or treet.” Seeing the joy on the faces of children and their parents was a real blessing!
I want to thank Jan Soucie and her entire committee who organized this great event and all of our members and others who worked and helped to make this possible. Thank you for showing your love for others and for sharing the love of Jesus Christ with the hundreds who came. May God use this to open hearts and minds to His love in the days to come!

Join us on Wednesday, October 25 for food, games and – of course – “Trunk or Treating!”
Cornerstone members will have their trunks open on the West Side of the church from 6-7:30 PM. You can come and eat a hot dog and chips from 5-5:45 PM before the games and the “Trunk or Treat” gets underway. We look forward to seeing you! Everyone welcome!
UPDATE: Volunteers Needed Saturday, Sept. 23 at 8 AM to Continue the Work!
Work has been ongoing Friday and today on the remodeling of our Sanctuary to enlarge the stage area and the sound booth. A big thank you to everyone who has turned out to work again this weekend. Much progress has been made as you can see from the pictures! Keep praying we can get this project completed and everything finished up by the Holidays in November-December! Once the remodeling is done, our new carpet will be installed in the Sanctuary! We will be painting the foyer and the Sanctuary before the new carpet is installed. We’ll likely begin the painting next week. Thanks for your willingness to pray and to help!
We’re off to a great start on our Sanctuary Remodeling project to enlarge our stage area and our Sound Booth at the back. We had 16 people show up last Saturday to work, and the old Sound Booth was demolished to make way for the new one. The left side of the stage area was dismantled as well to get ready to start framing the area that will be enlarged on that side. Thank you to everyone who came and helped!
Work will continue this Friday and Saturday, September 15-16. Anyone who can come and help on Friday after 11 AM, and/or Saturday at 8 AM will be greatly appreciated! Work will continue through the day both days and into the evening on Friday. Below are more photos of the work done this past Saturday!
That’s true for all of us. Beginning Sunday morning, September 10, 10:30 AM, I will be preaching a Sermon Series called, “A Fresh Start.” We will look at how, with God’s power and grace, it is possible for us to start over, or at least reset ourselves in many areas of life. So if you feel like you need a “do-over” in your relationship with God, with others, or in some area of your life, I hope you will prayerfully hear what God would say in these messages. If you know someone who needs a fresh start, invite them to join us!
GOAL: $2000 GIVEN TO DATE (10/9/17): $2,195! GOAL REACHED! Thank you for your generous giving!
The Rheubin L. South Missouri Missions Offering is our annual State Missions Offering. Cornerstone’s goal for 2017 is $2,000. Your Gifts through MMO stay right here in Missouri and support a multitude of ministries that help make disciples, multiply churches, and develop leaders:
Our theme this year is based off of 1 Corinthians 3:9a (KJV) – “For we are labourers together with God.”
Our Week of Prayer is September 17-24 to pray for the work of God in our state and for the Missouri Missions Offering.
We will begin the week with a kick-off, carry-in dinner and program on September 17 at 5:30 PM in the Large Fellowship Hall. Bring a main dish and a side dish or dessert to share and come hear what your giving to MMO will help to support.
NOTE: This will take the place of our regular Sunday Evening Worship Service.
President Donald Trump signed a proclamation (see above) yesterday declaring Sunday, September 3, 2017, a “National Day of Prayer” to pray for the victims of Hurricane Harvey and the response efforts to alleviate the suffering.
Dr. Robert Jeffress, Pastor of First Baptist Church in Dallas – a Southern Baptist Church – stood by the President as he signed the Declaration and then led in prayer (go to the :41 second mark of the first video above).
Let us join millions of Christians across our nation in praying for those affected by Hurricane Harvey, and for the efforts to help those in need.
Our church gives 10% of Regular Giving every month to the Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention. Some of that money funds Disaster Relief efforts by Missouri Baptists, and some of it is sent on to the National Convention and helps fund the work of the North American Mission Board. Your gifts to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions helps fund Disaster Relief efforts as well. The Missouri Missions Offering we are about to begin receiving for our State Convention also helps fund Disaster Relief efforts.
So, as you see the devastation and suffering in South Texas and Louisiana from Hurricane Harvey, just know that you are involved in helping to meet that massive need through your giving to our church and to the special offerings we receive throughout the year! Thank you for your generosity, and for caring about the needs around you!
NOTE: If you would like to give directly to help fund the Disaster Relief efforts of Missouri Baptists and our larger Southern Baptist Convention, you can give online here, or you can give to Cornerstone and mark the envelope “Disaster Relief.” All gifts marked “Disaster Relief” will be sent on to our Missouri Baptist Convention’s Disaster Relief Fund. This giving would be in addition to what you are already giving to Disaster Relief through your regular giving to Cornerstone.
Our Cornerstone Youth Group will kick-off a new year on Wednesday night, September 13, with Mike and Rachel Pirtle as new leaders. They are outstanding people, and have a lot of great learning and fun in store for Youth in grades 6-12! The group will meet weekly on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:30 PM, and there will also be special events as well through the year.
Come join in on Wednesday nights starting September 13 and invite your friends to come with you!
Join us for our annual Cornerstone Church Picnic at the Park, October 1, 2:00-7:00 PM at the Ellis-Porter Riverside Park.
We will have music and games, and there is a children’s playground nearby. We will gather at the big pavilion on top of the hill. The church will provide grilled meat. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share and your own beverages.
We will eat at around 5:00 PM, with a brief devotional service to follow. Come and be a part of this relaxing and enjoyable time of fellowship!
