That’s true for all of us. Beginning Sunday morning, September 10, 10:30 AM, I will be preaching a Sermon Series called, “A Fresh Start.” We will look at how, with God’s power and grace, it is possible for us to start over, or at least reset ourselves in many areas of life. So if you feel like you need a “do-over” in your relationship with God, with others, or in some area of your life, I hope you will prayerfully hear what God would say in these messages. If you know someone who needs a fresh start, invite them to join us!
GOAL: $2000 GIVEN TO DATE (10/9/17): $2,195! GOAL REACHED! Thank you for your generous giving!
The Rheubin L. South Missouri Missions Offering is our annual State Missions Offering. Cornerstone’s goal for 2017 is $2,000. Your Gifts through MMO stay right here in Missouri and support a multitude of ministries that help make disciples, multiply churches, and develop leaders:
Our theme this year is based off of 1 Corinthians 3:9a (KJV) – “For we are labourers together with God.”
Our Week of Prayer is September 17-24 to pray for the work of God in our state and for the Missouri Missions Offering.
We will begin the week with a kick-off, carry-in dinner and program on September 17 at 5:30 PM in the Large Fellowship Hall. Bring a main dish and a side dish or dessert to share and come hear what your giving to MMO will help to support.
NOTE: This will take the place of our regular Sunday Evening Worship Service.
President Donald Trump signed a proclamation (see above) yesterday declaring Sunday, September 3, 2017, a “National Day of Prayer” to pray for the victims of Hurricane Harvey and the response efforts to alleviate the suffering.
Dr. Robert Jeffress, Pastor of First Baptist Church in Dallas – a Southern Baptist Church – stood by the President as he signed the Declaration and then led in prayer (go to the :41 second mark of the first video above).
Let us join millions of Christians across our nation in praying for those affected by Hurricane Harvey, and for the efforts to help those in need.
Our church gives 10% of Regular Giving every month to the Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention. Some of that money funds Disaster Relief efforts by Missouri Baptists, and some of it is sent on to the National Convention and helps fund the work of the North American Mission Board. Your gifts to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions helps fund Disaster Relief efforts as well. The Missouri Missions Offering we are about to begin receiving for our State Convention also helps fund Disaster Relief efforts.
So, as you see the devastation and suffering in South Texas and Louisiana from Hurricane Harvey, just know that you are involved in helping to meet that massive need through your giving to our church and to the special offerings we receive throughout the year! Thank you for your generosity, and for caring about the needs around you!
NOTE: If you would like to give directly to help fund the Disaster Relief efforts of Missouri Baptists and our larger Southern Baptist Convention, you can give online here, or you can give to Cornerstone and mark the envelope “Disaster Relief.” All gifts marked “Disaster Relief” will be sent on to our Missouri Baptist Convention’s Disaster Relief Fund. This giving would be in addition to what you are already giving to Disaster Relief through your regular giving to Cornerstone.
Our Cornerstone Youth Group will kick-off a new year on Wednesday night, September 13, with Mike and Rachel Pirtle as new leaders. They are outstanding people, and have a lot of great learning and fun in store for Youth in grades 6-12! The group will meet weekly on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:30 PM, and there will also be special events as well through the year.
Come join in on Wednesday nights starting September 13 and invite your friends to come with you!
Join us for our annual Cornerstone Church Picnic at the Park, October 1, 2:00-7:00 PM at the Ellis-Porter Riverside Park.
We will have music and games, and there is a children’s playground nearby. We will gather at the big pavilion on top of the hill. The church will provide grilled meat. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share and your own beverages.
We will eat at around 5:00 PM, with a brief devotional service to follow. Come and be a part of this relaxing and enjoyable time of fellowship!
On September 9, 8 AM, we will begin remodeling the Sanctuary to enlarge our stage area and to enlarge the Sound Booth in the back. This will provide additional space for sound and equipment needs, and to add a row of chairs for our growing Sanctuary Choir! It will also provide more space for our Grand Piano that will arrive later this Fall!
We need volunteers to come and help with this work. Rick Miller and others will able to direct you what to do. You don’t have to be an expert to help. Just show up with a willing heart! Thanks in advance for your willingness to help!
UPDATE: Here are a couple of pictures as the new flooring is being installed today. Looks great!
Work has begun on remodeling our restrooms and foyer area in the front of the church. The restrooms are being remodeled to be ADA compliant. New flooring is being installed today! The video above shows several images of our volunteers who turned out this past Saturday to tear out the old carpet and get it ready for new flooring.
It’s time! Our Church Pictorial Directory sign-up is here! You can sign-up NOW for your own sitting appointment by clicking on the image above or by clicking here. The dates are September 6-9.
We want every family unit connected (member, attender, or even connected to our attenders) to our church to take part in this important ministry. Yes, it is a ministry to have your picture taken. That’s because it helps build the Fellowship of our church family. Current members and attenders can look at the completed directory and learn who people are, and it helps as future new members come into our church family to get to know everyone.
So even if you would not be inclined to have your picture taken just for yourself – do it for your church family. Do it for the Kingdom of God! There is no cost and you will receive a free 8 X10 and a copy of the new directory. If you want to purchase additional pictures from Lifetouch, you can, but there is no obligation to do so.
If you have a family member who is not a part of Cornestone, you can still invite them to have their photo taken and they will get the free 8 x10 and can purchase additional photos if they want to.
Thank you for taking part and helping to make this a great success! Please sign-up NOW for your sitting time!
